There has been a significant increase in the number of major city transit system upgrades over the past few years. This activity is due to advances in technology now offering major advantages over traditional magnetic paper based systems including benefits for cardholders and system operators (and therefore the city or state government). Most of these new systems are moving to contactless smartcard technology, generally based on international standard ISO14443. Keycorp’s MULTOS smartcard products are now available with this industry standard interface option and with our partners we have been working on providing solutions for new transit systems.

The interesting component of contactless smartcard technology is the ability to combine new and emerging payment infrastructure (EMV) with these transit cards. This allows financial institutions to issue a card that is truly multi-functional and there is no better platform than MULTOS for multi-function and multi-application capabilities.
