MULTOS smartcard is able to provide multiple applications on a secure platform, allows multi-vendor sourcing and is issuer centric. With over 50 applications available already running on MULTOS, further application development can be performed using C, Java, or MEL (the MULTOS specific low-level language for smaller code size).

MULTOS has been certified to the highest security level available – ITSEC E6 high – making it one of the most secure smartcards in the world. The card features:
  • Full implementation of the MULTOS specification
  • Embedded applications for the lowest cost to market (all optionally enabled)
  • MasterCard EMV application – M/Chip Select (for DDA or SDA EMV)
  • Keycorp PKI application
  • Mondex e-purse
  • Available on several silicon platforms and memory options:
    • Infineon 16/32/48 Kbytes EEPROM
    • Philips 16Kbytes EEPROM, dual-interface with integrated Mifare contactless
  • MULTOS 4 security standards. This security is evaluated independently to ITSEC E6 high and ensures the integrity of the data on the card, and the applications being executed on the card.

  • Secure loading and deleting of applications based on public key cryptography mechanisms

  • Complete application firewalls provided by the operating system. All applications and data are protected by the firewalls

  • High level cryptographic capabilities. These features allow full DDA EMV applications to execute on the card ensuring the highest level of transaction security for the EMV payment

  • Cryptographic co-processor for high performance RSA processing

  • Protection on investment – cross-platform interoperability and backwards compatibility ensure that applications will run on all current and future MULTOS platforms without any change and without costly re-building of data preparation and personalisation systems;

  • Lower card cost at issuance – as the result of fast personalisation made possible by the range of applications already built into ROM memory, the ability to separate Data Preparation from the Personalisation process, and the incorporation of fast personalisation capability in the platform design. The card cost is also kept low as MULTOS is the most efficient open platform for multiple applications with smaller and faster application, meaning more applications can run on a smaller chip size.

  • Wide variety of applications available “of-the-shelf”, from a large base of application developers. MULTOS enables fast application development using industry standard languages such as C and Java, as well as the super-efficient MULTOS Executable Language (MEL).

MULTOS has been designed to support loading and deleting of new applications as they become available, at any time during card lifecycle. ITSEC E6 High evaluated secure dynamic card and application management protocols facilitate addition of new as well as maintenance of existing applications without the need to replace an already issued card base.
Keycorp MULTOS product family, includes MULTOS and MULTOS step/one platforms, built on the latest Infineon SLE66Plus suite of contact, contactless[1] and dual interface technology, with memory ranging from 4K (low cost MULTOS step/one) all the way through to large 64K devices.  spacer As an additional value add, Keycorp MULTOS platforms come preconfigured with some of the most widely used smartcard applications, such as EMV payment, e-purse, PKI and match-on-card biometric algorithms (from Precise Biometrics). These applications are built into the ROM memory area of the chip, therefore releasing more space for customer specific applications.
